The first grant was for the construction of a sauna. A team was put together to build a sauna with the FAHS President as the master builder.

The Finnish American Heritage Society received two grants from the Institute for Community Research (www.incommunityresearch.org) through the Southern New England Folk and Traditional Arts and Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to foster the sharing of traditional (folk) artistic skills and cultural knowledge through the apprenticeship learning model of regular, intensive, one-on-one teaching by a master artist to a student/apprentice.

The second grant was for teaching the art of relief wood carving. Roger Morency and Ritva Autio are the master carvers for the apprentices. The program will be culminate on Sunday June 27 from 2-4, with an Exhibit at the Finnish Hall in Canterbury, CT |
